One thing I’ve discovered about being a mom is that things that are good in theory usually don’t work in real life. For example, if I had to do it over again I would definitely try to find 10 minutes here and there to record what made that day special. Maybe not everyday but the days when baby boy made me feel extra proud or happy or lucky.

I think part of the problem is when I try to write about our day I find myself fussing over the words instead of capturing the highlights. But when it comes to writing about your baby, surely you can’t be blamed for being overcome with emotions. “He received his first thank you card today and my heart was filled with the song of a thousand angels.” Okay, that might be a bit over the top but you know what I mean.

Sitting here thinking about why I want to record our days it actually hit me that I want I really mean is “I saw that he loved me even more today”. The bond between a mother and child is amazing, but like all relationship, it develops and evolves. Even through the eyes of this little baby I see how he recognises me and is growing to understand the bond we will share of for a life time. I don’t need notebook entries to remind me of that.
